Painting outside

Plein Air Painting is the practice of painting outdoors directly from nature, capturing the changing light, colours, atmosphere, and mood of a scene as it appears in the moment. Popularized by the Impressionists in the 19th century, plein air painting encourages artists to work quickly, observe carefully, and use expressive brushstrokes or pastel marks to capture the feeling of a landscape rather than every small detail. It celebrates the beauty of natural light and the immediacy of the artist’s experience.
